What is Fruitarianism?
You may not have heard of this before but fruitarians actually exists and very healthily too. I have always loved fruit and it has been a part of my diet for all of my life. However, I don’t think I could completely give up vegetables, fish and meat but I do have fruitarian days.
A fruitarian, would you believe; is somebody who eats fruit only including berries and vegetable fruits like cucumber, avocado, cucumbers, tomato and olives.
On 'Get Fishy' I noted the virtue of eating oily fish for their omega 3 content but most fruits contain a small amount of these essential fats and generally a fruitarian diet is eaten raw therefore digesting all the vitamins, minerals and enzymes which cooking often depletes. By the way avocado has loads of essential fatty acids, bananas and olives are heaped in all sorts that your body needs.
Fruitarians claim that they are never ill, enjoy a feeling of well being, need less sleep and apparently it slows the aging process.
Fruit only diets are a wonderful way to give your body a break from the richness of today’s eating habits. You may want to try this after the Christmas festivities or just to relieve that bloated, full feeling.
Remember dried fruits can be consumed too but it is best not to mix dried and fresh on the same plate. Chew the fruit slowly and thoroughly.
Tip: Don’t eat melon with other foods because it digests very quickly but will ferment if the digestion process is slowed up. This could cause a loss of nutrients and may lead to stomach discomfort.
